Doug: Lead Guitar

Doug Barnes
Doug Barnes, Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals

I've been playing guitar in local bands since the early 80's. My first real band was called Rat Salad, which was a heavy metal band from Carlisle. We played mainly in the Carlisle area until our breakup in the late 80's. Next came a very popular band from the Etters area called Premonition. Formed in '89, Premonition played a wide circuit from Harrisburg and Carlisle to York and even State College. The band did a tour in '94-'95 to promote our debut CD "It's About Time." Premonition came to demise in '99. At that time I joined a local band in the Etters area called All You Can Eat Lobster, followed by a band called Low Level Orbit. This in turn led me to the guys of S.O.S.

Influences

The first album, (I know, what's that?) I ever bought was Black Sabbath's Master of Reality. Tony Iommi was a big influence on my sound and style, playing with power and passion. Then along came Metallica and I was hooked.

Gear

I play a Gibson '57 Les Paul Reissue goldtop and also have a '76 Ibanez Gold top Les Paul. I play through a Crate V-33H into a homemade 2x12 cab I loaded with 25-watt celestion greenbacks and a Marshall 1x12 cab. I use a Digitech rp 50 multi effects pedal and a cry baby wah.

Other Interests

I enjoy spending time at the beach and camping whenever the family and I can get away. I've been a Richard Petty fan since I was about 10 and my family and I enjoy going to NASCAR races whenever we can.

I've recently been very interested in studying our founding fathers and promoting the ideas of freedom, liberty and government ruled by the constitution.

As the state motto goes, LIVE FREE OR DIE.
